Energy (Efficiency)

Renewable energy share

The renewable energy share in total final consumption is the percentage of final consumption of energy that is derived from renewable resources in a country.

Energy intensity

Energy intensity is defined as the energy supplied to the economy per unit value of economic output. This is an indication of how much energy is used to produce one unit of economic output.

Fossil-fuel subsidies

In order to measure fossil fuel subsidies at the national, regional and global levels, three sub-indicators are recommended for reporting on this indicator: 1) direct transfer of government funds; 2) induced transfers (price support); and 3) tax expenditure, other revenue foregone, and under-pricing of goods and services.

Renewable electricity-generating capacity

This indicator is defined as the installed capacity of power plants that generate electricity from renewable energy sources divided by the total population of a country.
